Chicory Root Inulin in SlimTide: 211 mg Next to the Research
Each SlimTide capsule lists 211 mg of chicory root inulin, a fermentable plant fiber. Weight studies of chicory inulin-type fiber used far more: a median of 10 g a day across 32 trials (Meta-analysis: chicory inulin and weight (2024), trade report) and 21 g a day in a 12-week trial (Oligofructose trial, 21 g a day (2009)). The capsule dose is about 47 to 100 times smaller than the amounts tested.

The basics
What is chicory root inulin?
Chicory root inulin is a fiber taken from the root of the chicory plant, Cichorium intybus. Your gut bacteria can ferment it, which is why it is sold as a prebiotic fiber.
On the SlimTide label it is the first line of the Supplement Facts panel: "Chicory Root Inulin (Cichorium intybus)(root)", 211 mg per capsule. It is the largest single ingredient in the capsule.
Researchers group inulin and oligofructose as inulin-type fructans. The 2024 review of chicory fiber and weight pooled both kinds (Meta-analysis: chicory inulin and weight (2024), trade report).
Inulin is a well-studied fiber. The open question for SlimTide is how much of it the capsule holds.

On the label
How much chicory inulin is in SlimTide?
One SlimTide capsule lists 211 mg of chicory root inulin, and the label says to take one capsule a day. That is 211 mg a day, or about one fifth of a gram.
With 100 mg of potato resistant starch, the capsule holds 311 mg of fiber.

Dose check
Is 211 mg of inulin enough to matter?
By the standard of the weight research, no. The studies that found an effect used 10 to 21 g a day, and 211 mg is about 1% to 2% of that.
Matching the 10 g median would take dozens of capsules. The label says one a day, and we agree with the label.
The evidence
Does chicory inulin help with weight loss?
At gram doses, chicory inulin-type fiber shows a small effect on weight. A 2024 meta-analysis reported about 0.97 kg more weight loss than placebo at a median 10 g a day (Meta-analysis: chicory inulin and weight (2024), trade report).
The 2024 review: 32 trials
The review pooled 32 randomized trials, 29 of which measured weight. It reported 0.97 kg less body weight, 0.39 kg/m2 less BMI and 1.03 cm less waist at a median of 10 g a day (Meta-analysis: chicory inulin and weight (2024), trade report). We read it through a trade-press report, so treat the figures as reported.
The 21 g trial: 12 weeks
In 48 adults with a BMI over 25, the group taking 21 g of oligofructose a day lost 1.03 kg. The placebo group gained 0.45 kg. The fiber group also had lower ghrelin, higher PYY and ate less by their own report (Oligofructose trial, 21 g a day (2009)).
Both results are modest: about a kilogram, at doses far above one capsule. Neither study tested SlimTide. The FTC notes that single-ingredient studies may not support claims for a combination product (FTC: health claims need trials).

Who paid
Who funded the chicory inulin research?
The 2024 meta-analysis was funded by the Beneo Institute, an arm of a chicory-fiber supplier (Meta-analysis: chicory inulin and weight (2024), trade report). Industry funding does not make a result false, but it is a fact readers deserve to weigh.
Ask who paid, whether other teams found the same, and how big the effect was. Here it was about 1 kg, at gram doses.
The 2009 oligofructose trial is a separate, smaller study (Oligofructose trial, 21 g a day (2009)). Our source for it does not list a funder, so we do not guess one.

Does chicory inulin cause gas or bloating?
It can, at gram doses. In a tolerance trial of 26 healthy adults, flatulence was the most common symptom and bloating came next (Inulin tolerance trial (2010)).
| Finding | Detail |
|---|---|
| Native inulin | Well tolerated up to 10 g a day in the trial |
| Oligofructose, 10 g | Substantially more gut symptoms than native inulin |
| Most common symptoms | Flatulence first, then bloating |
| NIDDK advice | Too much fiber at once can cause gas; add 2 to 3 g a day |
SlimTide's 211 mg is far below the 10 g that was well tolerated. Big gut effects seem unlikely, but we cannot promise none.

What are the pros and cons of chicory inulin in SlimTide?
The fiber is a sensible choice. The weak point is the amount.
Pros
- The amount, 211 mg, is printed plainly on the label
- Chicory fiber has been tested in dozens of randomized trials
- The dose sits far below the level linked to gas in the tolerance trial
Cons
- About 47 to 100 times less than the weight trials used
- The main review was funded by a chicory-fiber supplier
- No trial has tested SlimTide itself
What to do
How can you get more inulin-type fiber benefit?
The fiber doses studied were measured in grams, so one capsule cannot supply them. Fiber from everyday meals, added slowly, is the practical route (NIDDK: IBS diet and fiber).
- Treat the capsule as a small extra, not your fiber source
- Add fiber from meals a little at a time, about 2 to 3 g a day
- Track weight weekly, not daily, and judge by steady habits
The NIH supplement office says diet, fewer calories and activity remain the basis of weight loss (NIH ODS: weight-loss supplements). Our gut health guide covers meal-based fiber in plain steps.
FAQ
Chicory root inulin in SlimTide: FAQ
How much inulin is in one SlimTide capsule?
One SlimTide capsule lists 211 mg of chicory root inulin from Cichorium intybus root. At the label dose of one capsule a day, that is 211 mg a day, or about a fifth of a gram. It is the largest single ingredient in the capsule.
How much inulin do you need for weight loss?
The weight studies used grams, not milligrams. A 2024 review of 32 trials reported a median of 10 g a day (Meta-analysis: chicory inulin and weight (2024), trade report), and a 12-week trial used 21 g of oligofructose a day (Oligofructose trial, 21 g a day (2009)). Even at those doses, the reported weight change was about 1 kg.
Is chicory root inulin the same as oligofructose?
They are related but not identical. Both belong to the inulin-type fructan family, and the 2024 chicory review pooled them together (Meta-analysis: chicory inulin and weight (2024), trade report). In a tolerance trial, 10 g of oligofructose caused more gut symptoms than native inulin, so the two can behave differently (Inulin tolerance trial (2010)).
Does inulin make you gassy?
It can, mainly at gram doses. In a trial of 26 healthy adults, flatulence was the most common symptom and bloating came second (Inulin tolerance trial (2010)). Native inulin was well tolerated up to 10 g a day. SlimTide's 211 mg is far below that, though sensitive people may still notice a change.
Who funded the chicory inulin weight research?
The 2024 meta-analysis was funded by the Beneo Institute, part of a chicory-fiber supplier, according to the trade report we read (Meta-analysis: chicory inulin and weight (2024), trade report). Funding does not prove a result wrong, but the reported effect was small: about 0.97 kg.
Is chicory inulin safe to take every day?
At 211 mg a day, the amount is far below the 10 g that healthy adults tolerated well in a trial (Inulin tolerance trial (2010)). Gas and bloating are the usual complaints at higher doses. Pregnant or nursing women, under-18s and people with a medical condition should ask a physician first, per the label.
